Week of March 22-28 2004 Over spring break we did a lot of work on the car. Monday: The last layer of glass was applied. Tuesday: After cutting out the bubbles in the last layer of glass, we built a dam and mixed the X-30 expanding foam. We had a bit of an incident and the X-30 ended up all over the floor. Wednesday: After applying a final coat of X-30, we popped the bottom mold and began the sanding process on the bottom female. We also continued sanding the trouble spots on the top female, adding more gelcoat to those areas. Thursday: The electricity was out when we arrived at the site, however after sanding in the dark for about an hour the electricity came back on. The sanding continued, aided by the watching of Family Guy. Saturday: We sanded both the top and bottom molds to 1500 and waxed both molds using the 4 step waxing process. We then applied PVA and vacuum tape to the female molds in preparation for the carbon lay-up. Sunday: We did the carbon lay-up for the bottom. We started by applying blue dyed epoxy to the carbon fiber inside the female mold. Then we prepared the mold for the vacuum bag. After tinkering with the vacuum pumps we finally got a suction and left the vacuum on overnight.
