2005: Revenge of '04
Last year's trip
to the supermileage competition left some unfinished business to be
taken care of this year. In 2004 a series of minor but costly incedents
(blown tire, thrown chain, flooded engine compartment, melted starter
relay) prevented the completion of a mileage run. That car was back
this year, improved and ready to go, complete with the brand new fuel
injected engine.
This year was not
without its issues, however it was still night and day in comparison.
Kevin and Dylan spent plenty of nights not sleeping working on the map
of the fuel injection. A rare few teams run fuel injection on their
vehicles. We were the only one that wrote our own program to run it.
While not being perfect by competition time, the car still performed
very well, grabbing 4th place. Doing that well despite this, we can
rest assured that the body that Mike designed last year and the engine
Kevin, Chris, and Andrew designed in 102B was of quality and that all and all
we are heading in the right direction.
The trip out to
Michigan was also much better, sans the Nevada tire incidents of last
year. We went through a bit of a thunderstorm and hale in Nebraska,
but no dodging of tornados this time around.
