Competition Results
The annual SAE Supermileage Competition
takes place each June at the Eaton semi-truck proving grounds in Marshall,
MI. The competition is a two day event. On the first day, all cars must pass
a technical inspection to ensure compliance with rules including minimum construction
and drivability standards. After passing tech, teams are allowed practice
runs. The second day is the actual competition. Six laps around the 1.6 mile
track constitute one run from which mileage is extrapolated. Teams are allowed
as many runs as they can successfully complete in one day, with the team's
best run constituting their score. All vehicles must maintain an average speed
of 15 mph and must thus complete the run in 38 minutes, 24 seconds. Any teams
that go over this score incur a penalty substracting mileage from their score.
Drivers of the car must weigh at least 130 lbs (although they can be weighted
down) and the cars must run off of iso-octane.
More information about the competition,
including rules,
can be found on the SAE Webpage.>
